Eight persons were killed and several injured on Monday morning, after a petrol-laden tanker lost its brake and rammed into other vehicles at Felele axis of the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway in Kogi State.
The accident, which reportedly involved three cars, four tricycles, two motorcycles and a bus, was said to have occurred as the tanker was descending the road.
It was gathered that angry youths took over the highway to protest the incident.

According to TheNation, an eye witness who identified himself as Moses Johnson, noted that the crash occurred around 8.45am.
Johnson said the driver of the tanker, which was coming from the Lagos end of the road, lost control as a result of brake failure, leading to the death of innocent people.
Officers of the Federal Fire Service drafted to Lokoja for the governorship election, were drafted to the scene of the accident to put out the fire, which almost took over one section of the highway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), also deployed personnel to evacuate the victims, included the injured.
An official of the FRSC was quoted as saying that 17 people were involved in the accident, caused by a DAF tanker with plate number; JEG141XA.
He said the victims were taken to the Federal Medical Central and the Specialist Hospital, both in Lokoja, the state capital.
