A Nigerian army officer, seven soldiers and several Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly been killed in a fierce battle in Mainok, 60 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
It was gathered that the deadly encounter occurred at about 1.00pm on Tuesday, before the troops repelled an ambush on 156 Task Force Battalion of Nigerian Army.

Five soldiers were said to be injured, with two others still missing, while a high number of casualties was recorded against the insurgents, PR Nigeria quoted security sources as saying.

“Two gun trucks and three anti-aircraft equipment could not be accounted for following the attack,” the source added.

The bodies of the soldiers were recovered, while the injured were moved to a medical facility for treatment.
