The Acting Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Abiodun Alabi, has warned politicians and political thugs against electoral violence.
He gave the warning in a statement issued by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Hauwa Idris-Adamu, in Lagos on Thursday.
Alabi warned criminal-minded politicians and political thugs to abstain from all pre-election and post-election violence.
According to him, the command will not condone any form of lawlessness from anyone.
The AIG said that the command had deployed officers to their respective areas of responsibilities ahead of the Saturday 2023 Presidential Election.
“In order to ensure professionalism and quality of service, we warned officers and men to acquaint themselves with the electoral guidelines and to remain apolitical.
“They are to be mindful of what they say and post on social media while they make use of the improvised Police Pocket Notebook during the election process and endeavor to make entry in it where the need arises,” he said.
Alabi said that the officers would also collaborate with all sister security agencies during the elections.
He warned all officers and men to ensure that the election materials were protected.
He urged the officers to eschew all forms of corruption and corrupt practices which could tarnish or dent the image of the force and be well dressed as the world had eyes on the Nigeria Police Force at this time.
Alabi assured the law-abiding citizens of their safety before, during and after the electioneering period.
