Unai Emery, Arsenal manager, on Friday, confirmed Granit Chaka as the club’s permanent captain.
Arsenal players had reportedly engaged in a blind vote during the week to choose their new leader.
Xhaka has been the favourite to wear the armband, having worn it a few times before now, and was chosen ahead for four other players.

The Switzerland captain was chosen ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil to wear the armband.
“Xhaka is mature [and] he has experience,” Emery stated when addressing his new skipper’s position.
“In the dressing room, the players voted him first for the leadership.”
The team had been without an appointed captain since the departure of Laurent Koscielny to Bordeaux in the summer.
Arsenal, who are fourth in the Premier League table will face stumbling Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday.
