In an interview on Thursday, Uche, who captained the Falcons to the 2011 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany, stated that the invitational tournament with the theme Playing for Good under the Futured Assured Programme of the Aisha Buhari Foundation is a project capable of propelling Nigerian girls and women in general to greater heights in all aspects of life.
“Her Excellency the First Lady deserves praise for putting her weight behind women’s football in Africa. We can only hope that more positive support like this will keep flowing in for the gender game. Women’s football is here to stay; there is no turning back ,”Eucharia said.
In preparation for the tournament, Eucharia urged Nigerian players to take the competition seriously, viewing each match as the Final.
“If the invitational tournament is well-publicized and messages are disseminated across Nigeria and Africa, the days of unguided girl-child straying into the streets will soon be over. The girl-child and women can be placed on the right pedestal early enough in life to discover their talents in various spheres of life, making them useful to their families, Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large. This is quite commendable on the part of the First Lady.” she stated.
