Arsenal defeated Napoli 2-0 in their UEFA Europa League first leg quarter-final clash at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday.
Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 15th minute before Kalidou Koulibaly’s own goal made it 2-0 in the 25th.
Nigerian international Alex Iwobi was in action for Arsenal after he was brought in for Alexandre Lacazette in the 67th minute.
In Czech Republic, a late Marcos Alonso goal gave Chelsea a hardfought 1-0 win against Slavia Prague.
Alonso scored with four minutes remaining in the game to hand Chelsea the first leg advantage.
In Spain, young Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze was in action for Villareal but could not prevent them from losing 3-1 at home to fellow Spanish side Valencia.
Former Arsenal midfield star Santi Cazorla got Villareal’s goal.
And in the other Europa League game played on Thursday, Benfica defeated 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt 4-2.
Second legs of the Europa League quarter-final will be played next week Thursday.
