A former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has kicked against prosecution of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, for allegedly insulting President Buhari, saying it is an abuse of power.
Throwing a flashback to Nigeria’s political historical activities, Omokri, who took to Twitter to express his view on Thursday, noted that Buhari had also insulted former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Jonathan as well as Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and was not prosecuted.
He further stated that If insulting Buhari is a crime, then all Nigerians should be persecuted for the same reason as the embattled pro-Biafra agitator.
Omokri wrote: “Charging Nnamdi Kanu for insulting Buhari is an abuse of power. Buhari himself insulted former President Obasanjo (as recently as last year) and Jonathan as well as Yar’adua.
“If insulting Buhari is a crime, then all Nigerians should be persecuted for the same reason.”
Kanu was in court on Thursday where he pleaded “not guilty” to a seven-count charge bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony.
Kanu was in a convoy of about six vehicles that were driven into the court premises around 8 am on Thursday by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS).
