Operatives of the Ogun State police command have arrested one Mela Samaila, a former security guard at Grace Nations Church, also known as Liberation City, for allegedly breaking into the church’s auditorium and stealing the offering box with an undisclosed amount of money.
DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s spokesperson, said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at Ojodu Abiodun divisional headquarters from security men on duty at the church, that a thief scaled the fence and broke into the main auditorium.
Oyeyemi noted that the suspect made away with the church’s offering box.
He said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), at Ojodu Abiodun division, Eyitayo Akinluwade, quickly mobilised his patrol team to the scene, combed the area and succeeded in arresting the suspect with the help of the church’s security men.
He added that the offering box was recovered from Samaila.
The command’s spokesperson said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was once a security guard at the church, but was relieved of his duties due to some inappropriate behaviour.
He added that the state commissioner of police, Edward A. Ajogun, has directed that the suspect should be charged to court without delay as soon as investigation is concluded.
