Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, has defended Donald Trump for his conduct over the attack on the US Capitol riot, saying the outgoing US President never incited the mob to attack the parliament building or lawmakers.
Supporters of President Trump had last Wednesday stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to force lawmakers to overturn the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the November 3, 2020 presidential election.
The attack left five persons, including a police officer dead, with many US politicians across bipartisan lines directly blaming President Trump for encouraging the crowd to confront the Congress.
But in a series of Twitter posts on Wednesday, Fani-Kayode, who is an ardent supporter of President Trump, insisted that his revered political figure did not spur his supporters to mob congress and cause the chaos witnessed last week.
The former minister linked the situation to Nigerian politics, saying President Muhammadu Buhari never expressed regret for the killings recorded in northern Nigeria when he lost the 2011 presidential election.
Buhari was the presidential candidate of the now-defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011 and his loss to Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election sparked riots, resulting in the deaths of many members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who served as ad-hoc election officials.
Fani-Kayode vowed to give N1 million to any person who provides a video showing President Trump inciting his supporters to attack the US Capitol. He also promised to reward anyone who provides a video showing Buhari apologising for the killings recorded after his election loss in 2011 another N1 million.
