Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister, has asked Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust, to pay him N6 billion as compensation for the defamatory article it published against him on Sunday.

He claimed, in a letter signed by Adeola Adesipe, his lawyer, that the article titled, ‘FFK, the Drug Addled Thug in Designer Wear’, and written by Iliyasu Gadu, is defamatory and has harmed his image.

Fani-Kayode also asked that an apology be published in the newspaper and in two other national dailies.

The former minister gave the Daily Trust Newspaper 14-day ultimatum to comply with the demands in the letter or face legal action.

The said article followed an outburst by Fani-Kayode in which he called Eyo Charles, a Daily Trust correspondent in Calabar, the Cross River capital, stupid.

In the article, Gadu claimed Fani-Kayode was a drug addict while he was in the United Kingdom and sought “spiritual and physical rehabilitation in Ghana.”
