A father of four, Dodo Baraje has killed his uncle in Shirumbu village of Niger state. Baraje, 25, reportedly shot the victim following a confrontation that ensued over the suspect’s penchant for a local gin known as “Suck and Die”.
Baraje in contrition said he couldn’t understand why he killed the 50-year-old, who he said brought him up since infancy.
“Out of annoyance, I ran into the house, picked a gun and shot him. I never knew that he would die, he was only correcting me so that I will be a better person in the society, someone my family will be proud of,” Baraje said to Northern City News.
He added: “I don’t know how I am going to explain this to my family, especially to my wife who loved my late uncle so much. In fact, I was under the influence of alcohol; ordinarily I wouldn’t have killed my uncle who took care of me.
“I had never quarreled with him before, honestly, I don’t know what came over me. May Allah forgive me. I now realised what I have done to my life, I am a fool,” Dodo lamented.
Muhammad Abubakar, spokesman for the Niger Police Command, said Baraje was arrested while trying to flee and a single-barrelled gun recovered from him. He said the suspect would be charged to court.
