Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti state, has said that the Federal Government is responsible for the non-payment of workers’ salaries in the state. He said the government had stopped an N11 billion road project refund which had been earmarked for the payment of salaries.
He said this at a monthly programme, ”Meet Your Governor”, on Ekiti State Television. He blamed the suspension of the payment on a suit filed by Dapo Kolawole, a former finance commissioner, where he asked a court to stop the N11bn refund because the projects were not executed by his regime.
“I have not received the N11bn but if I get it today, I will surprise the workers. Those are the areas I was looking at when I said I would not leave office as a debtor.
“The Federal Government has not released budget support for Ekiti for two months now and it is the APC people that are blocking this for the state,” he said.
Fayose also stated that the projects were executed during his tenure and those of Kayode Fayemi and Segun Oni, who are former governors. He lamented that his predecessors had left debts behind which had hampered growth in the state. He said although he had stood with Fayemi when he was being screened by the Senate, he had not returned any favour to the state.
