The Federal Government has asked Wale Babalakin, Pro-chancellor and Chairman of University of Lagos’ Governing Council, to recuse himself from his official duties.
Same order was also passed on Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the sacked vice chancellor of the institution.
The information was announced in a press statement signed by Ben Goong, the Ministry of Education spokesman.
The Presidential Panel, made up of seven members, is expected to determine whether the required steps were taken by the Council in sacking Ogundipe. They are also expected “to make appropriate recommendations including sanctions for all those found culpable” in the investigation, which is expected to last for two weeks.
It also set up a special visitation panel to probe the crisis at the university.
This follows a request by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) asking President Muhammadu Buhari to constitute a panel to look into the leadership crisis rocking the university.
The Governing Council, led by Babalakin, had removed Ogundipe as vice-chancellor, replacing him with Prof. Omololu Soyombo.
