Akator, captain of Nigeria’s D’Tigress, has said the team is focused on laying down a legacy at the ongoing FIBA World Cup in Spain.
The Nigerian team, ranked second to the last at the tournament, earned back-to-back victories , after recording a nervy 75-70 points win over Turkey in their final Group B game. The team had recorded a 74-68 victory over highly-ranked Turkish team on Sunday.
The win ensured they finished second in the group behind Australia, who had three wins out of three matches, while Nigeria had two wins from three games.
According to Akator, the team is not bothered about their opponent because they are poised to lay down a legacy at the World Cup.
“We will cross the bridge, which is Greece, and before I left Nigeria, I made a comment that we will lay it all up on the court, do or die, to leave our landmark on the court.
“And as it stands now in every game, we will leave it all up on the court, be it Greece or USA, whichever comes our way, Akator stated.”
The D’Tigress will face 20th ranked Greece in the pre-quarterfinal game on Wednesday.
Also, the Assistant Coach of the team, Peter Ahmedu, has stated that team will make Nigeria proud in Wednesday’s pre-quarterfinal tie against the Europeans.
Ahmedu said the girls are not afraid of any challenge ahead of them.
“We are taking it one game at a time, we are doing our best to study our next opponent which is Greece. Greece is also a world championship team. There is no doubt about it, but I tell you, the girls are rearing to go against any team,” he said.
