The Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, and English Premier League giants Arsenal, have sent birthday wishes to former Nigerian international, Nwankwo Kanu, who turns 42 on Wednesday.
FIFA and Arsenal took to their verified Twitter handle to send their birthday wishes to Kanu.
Also celebrating other notable footballers, past and present, FIFA wrote:”Happy birthday to @NemanjaMatic (30), @karenjcarney (31), Bastian Schweinsteiger (34), @papilokanu (42) & Danny Blind (57).”
And according to Arsenal:”Wishing you a very happy birthday, @papilokanu – we hope you enjoy it.”
A two-time African Player of the Year (1996 and 1999), Kanu made his debut for the Super Eagles in 1994 and appeared in six Africa Cup of Nations and three FIFA World Cups.
He was a member of the Golden Eaglets side that won the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup and captained the U-23 Eagles, Dream Team, to the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
At club level, Kanu won the 1995 UEFA Champions League with Ajax and the 1998 UEFA Cup (now Europa Cup) with Inter Milan.
And at Arsenal, he won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups. He also won the FA Cup with Portsmouth, scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win against Cardiff City in the 2008 final.
