Over 200 shops were burnt in a fire outbreak at the plank market in Alaro area of Sango, Ibadan on Friday, Christmas day. The cause of the fire remains unknown but traders say the inferno, which started around 3pm, was fuelled by planks and sawdust in the market. The traders lamented the inadequacy of the fire service as they said only one truck was sent to the scene which had to leave about three times to get more water. A trader, simply identified as Segun, said the fire had damaged goods worth over N200 million. He said they had lost planks, machines and other equipment they had in their stores. He also lamented the efforts of the fire service saying if they had come well prepared, they would have controlled the fire before it spread to other shops.
