First Bank of Nigeria has debunked the rumours that it has closed all branches in the eastern part of the country.
The bank posted on its official Twitter handle midday Wednesday that “Our South East branches are fully open for business. Please disregard any news making the round that is contrary to this.”
Tension has been so high in most states in the eastern region of Nigeria lately with reported cases of killing, kidnapping, burning of police stations and other cases of insecurity, and more importantly the dreaded activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a Biafran separatist organization in Nigeria in the region.
The tension escalated when the IPOB declared a sit-at-home order for Igboland to celebrate the Biafra Day on Monday, 31 May, 2021.
The order was a success in Abia State as residents stay indoors with business outlets closed despite state government’s directive that people should go about with their businesses.
