Five persons have been arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing underground cables belonging to telecom company, MTN. The defendants were said to have dug up the cables buried under the earth at Adeniyi Jones Street, in the Ikeja area of Lagos state.
The suspects are Olayemi Abioye, 47, Adebayo Adesanya, 43, Luka Stephen, 31, Yakubu Adams, 46, and John Ochei, 58.
Police prosecutor, Akhaluode Mattew, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on January 4, 2018. He said the offence contravened and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, Nigeria.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the two counts charge of theft and conspiracy preferred against them.
The magistrate, Y.R. Pinhero granted the defendants bail in the sum N50, 000, with two sureties each.
The case was adjourned till February 19, 2018 for mention.
