Five men were Tuesday paraded at the Lagos Police Command, for vandalizing and stealing NITEL cables.
The suspects, Muhammed Rabiu, 41; Musiliu Iyande, 35; Musa Ibrahim, 32; Sheriff Usman, 2; and David Okpaku, 28, were arrested on January 11, 2018 on Fatai Atere street, Mushin area of the state at about 02:50am. They were allegedly caught while cutting the cables buried underground.
Imohimi Edgal, the commissioner of police, said the suspects also stole electricity distribution company cables and street lights.
Other items recovered by the police from the suspects include, an unregistered marked truck containing 15 long pieces of cables, a Mercury Voyeja Space Wagon vehicle with registration number RSH 686 AJ which contained two heavy duty batteries and 3 jack chains.
Edgal said during investigation the suspects confessed that they specialize in vandalizing cables and had been in the business for some time. He added that the suspects operate between Lagos and Ogun states.
“At the end of the police investigation, the suspects will be dully prosecuted and charged to court,” Edgal said.
