About 200 houses have been destroyed by flood with thousands, including women and children displaced in Taraba State.
It was said that the flood followed a heavy rainfall, which started around 2:00am on Saturday and lasted for three hours.
According to Daily Trust, houses and business premises located close to River Mayo-Gwoi were mostly affected by the flood.
It was also reported that several motorists were stranded at both sides of the Mayo-Gwoi bridge.
Household items, foodstuffs and animals worth hundreds of thousands of naira were lost in the flood.
Nasiru Bobboji, chairman of Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, has called for urgent provision of relief materials and medication to victims of the flood disaster.
He made the appeal shortly after he visited houses affected by the flood in Mayo-Gwoi, Rubi area, Magami and other parts of the state capital.
Bobboji described the incident as a ‘disaster”.
“You can see many houses collapsed, property including foodstuffs destroyed by the flood and therefore there is the urgent needs to assist the victims,” he said.
