The Flying Eagles have failed to grab a ticket to next year’s Under 20 African Cup of Nations. The Eagles,, who are defending champions of the cup, had won by 2-1 away in Sudan but fell by 3-4 to the visitors at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. The contest ended 5-5 with the Sudanese going through on away goal rule.
Elsewhere, Ghana’s 1-0 home win over Senegal was not enough as Senegal progressed 3-2 on aggregate following their 3-1 two weeks ago. South Africa’s Amajita recorded a comfortable 5-0 aggregate win over Lesotho to book their place for Zambia 2017, as did Egypt following their resounding 4-0 win over Angola, going through 5-0 on aggregate.
Sudan, Senegal, South Africa and Egypt join Zambia as the five qualified teams so far, with three spots still up for grabs in Sunday’s qualifiers: Guinea host Gambia with the tie at 0-0, the same aggregate scoreline ahead of Mali and Burkina Faso’s showdown, while Cameroon travel to Libya with a healthy 3-0 advantage from the first leg.
