A Japanese man, Akira Furusho, has been mauled to death by four tiger on Monday.
Furusho, 40, who is said to be an experienced employee at zat Hirakawa Zoological Park was found unconscious with severe injuries on his neck at the zoo, in Kagoshima.
He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
It was revealed that four white tigers inside the enclosure were sedated using a tranquilizer gun during the rescue operation.
The zoo is currently investigating the incident and will review security procedures.
Meanwhile the cause of the incident remains unclear as does the fate of the tiger responsible for the zookeeper’s death.
