There are indications that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will resume its industrial action as members of its University of Ibadan branch on Monday took to the street of the institution to protest the federal government’s failure to meet its agreement with the union.
Lecturers from various government-owned universities have continued to agitate after the President Muhammadu Buhari government only paid lecturers for the days they taught after returning to class from their 8-month strike.
Recall that lecturers had in February embarked on industrial action over the failure of President Buhari to honour agreements reached with the union years back.
The lecturers were, however, forced to halt their industrial action after a court ruled that they should return to classes.
However, the lecturers are demanding that the government pay them a backlog of salary owed since the start of their strike, which went unpaid as a result of the government’s no work, no pay policy.
