The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, on Sunday paid a sensitization visit to the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners’ Chapel in Ikorodu.
Babatope Agbaje, the sector commander in Ikorodu, who represented the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, said the motive of the visit was to reduce the rate of accidents on the highway, along which the church is located. He said the visit became necessary because of the number of vehicles bearing the church’s sticker.
“I am here today to represent the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi. We want to cut down on the number of road crash victims”, Agaje said.
“There is no family in Nigeria today that has not gotten the bitr or the pain of road crashes. Every family has been affected, every home, all of us, all churches, our friends”.
“May be I need to reveal to us that from statistics, out of every ten vehicles on the highway, you will see one carrying the sticker of this church. That’s to tell you that ten per cent of vehicular volumes we have on the highways belong to members of this church”.
He urged the congregants to imbibe Christ-like attitude while driving, to support the commission’s course of saving lives on the highways.
He further said “This means that we (church members) have to be very careful because we are not the only ones on the highways. They that are knit with Christ must stay away from any form of iniquity.”
Agbaje also identified bad roads, poorly-maintained vehicles and bad driving attitude as the major causes of accidents on the nation’s highway.
