Residents of Port Harcourt, the River State capital, have been hit by scarcity of fuel.

This was reported to have started on Monday as vehicles have had to queue for hours to buy petrol.

Many dealers have shut their stations, forcing motorists to throng the popular Mobil filling station at Waterlines, along the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway.

Reports say as at 10am on Tuesday, most of the filling stations were still locked up as the owners refused to sell, hoping that the scarcity would force an increase in the pump price of petrol.

However, Ikenna Okpani, the Media Officer, Port Harcourt Refining and Petrochemical Company, told Punch Metro that he was not aware of any fuel scarcity, adding that there was no reason for dealers to close their fuel stations.
