At least 10 senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would this week leave the party for the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Newsbreak learned that most of the senators are still furious with the APC leadership over the manner they handled the last primary elections across states of the federation. The inability of the ruling administration to also solve the security problem is also another worry of the legislators.
This news medium understands that the planned defection is said to have rattled the leadership of APC with some of the senators accusing the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan of refusing to read the letters of defection submitted to him last week, an allegation the Yobe lawmaker, denied.
The imminent defection of the 10 Senators imply that the APC will lose its majority status in the red chamber of the National Assembly.
Among the Senators allegedly set to dump APC are Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, (APC -Bauchi North); Senator Ladi Dadu’ut, (APC – Plateau South); Senator Bello Mandiya, (APC –Katsina South); Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, (APC – Kwara Central); Senator Danladi Sankara, (APC – Jigawa West); and Senator Sabi Aliyu Abdullahi, (APC – Niger North);
Others are Smart Adeyemi, (APC – Kogi West); Senator Yakubu Oseni, (APC – Kogi Central); Bauchi Central, Isah Hamma Misau and Halliru Dauda, (APC – Bauchi Central).
Already, incumbent APC President, Muhammadu Buhari, is being threatened with impeachment by many of the lawmakers. They accuse the president of being incompetent to solve the security challenge the country is faced with.
