Newsbreak reports that Kwara State has produced many top squash players in the sport’s 50-year history in Nigeria, and 22-year-old Gabriel Olufunmilayo is one.
Coached by a master in the game, Isiaka Magaji, Olufunmilayo’s development over the last two years has been phenomenal.

Per the latest ranking by the world’s squash governing body, the Professional Squash Association (PSA), Olufunmilayo is presently No.315 in the world. In Nigeria, he is rated No.2.
This year on the world tour, he’s featured in six tournaments and collected a decent 128.000 points.
The vantage ground of Olufunmilayo
In life, there is no difficulty that cannot be conquered with determination. That is the mentality that Olufunmilayo holds. He had once told this reporter that determination is key to his growth.
“Squash is an ‘exclusive’ game that requires a lot of physical, mental strength, and total concentration. At times when I’m even fatigued, I try to put myself together and make efforts so that I can at least make a statement,” he said.

Why Squash is fun – Olufunmilayo
“I have so much interest in squash because it is not a game for lazy people. I feel so energetic whenever I play squash, and I feel it prevents me from any form of sickness. I’m always pleased whenever I remember I am a professional squash player because I know the impact of squash on my life, most especially health-wise,” Olufunmilayo said recently.
If he can remain focused, pundits have tipped him to be among the players who will represent his country, Nigeria, at future World Squash Federation (WSF) Squash Team Championships.
