Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, has criticised news outlets in the country, over the attention on Coronavirus.
Dr Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, on Friday, confirmed the first case of the disease in the country to be an Italian man, who recently retured to Lagos from Milan, Italy.
Since the news broke, the media in the country has given attention and publicity to the disease, which has killed thousands around the world, and tens of thousands infected, since the outbreak in China last year.
About 71 persons have been quarantined in Ogun and Plateau States, over possible contacts with suspected carriers of the virus.
However, Shehu, in a tweet on Sunday, said most Nigerian newspapers used stories of Coronavirus on their cover pages, questioning when such spotlight will also be given to malaria, which according to him, kills 822 Nigerians everyday.
He wrote: “This morning’s newspapers, all of them have Coronavirus as the lead cover story.
“When will they bring the spotlight to bear on 822 who are killed by malaria everyday in Nigeria?”
