Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he will begin training with former club Liverpool next week. Speaking on BT Sport’s Champions League coverage, the LA Galaxy midfielder said he was relishing the prospect of working under new Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, even if it is on a non-playing basis.
The midfielder left Liverpool at the end of last season following a 17-year spell at the club, during which he captained the side to a famous Champions League win in 2005. The 35-year-old met Klopp while holidaying on Merseyside recently and the pair discussed the possibility of him training with his old teammates at Melwood during Major League Soccer’s close season. However, both Gerrard and the Liverpool manager have ruled out a playing return to Anfield this season.
