A 13-year-old girl that was abducted from her mother’s shop in Bayelsa State and taken to Kano State where she was converted to Islam and married off without her parents consent has secured admission into University.
Ese Oruru, made headlines in 2015 when a man named Yunusa Dahiru, abducted her to Kano and married her off.
Ese, the youngest child of Charles Oruru and Rose Oruru, welcomed a child after her release.
Former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili was one of those who fought to have her released to her parents.
Years after the incident, Oby Ezekwesili returned to Twitter to give an update. She revealed that Ese is now in university.
She wrote: “How many of you on this Twitter remembers Ese Oruru, young woman who was impregnated and abducted to Kano? I stayed on the matter beyond our collective success in getting her back to her parents. Ese had a baby girl, I supported her to continue with her JSS, she is now in the University.”
