The Delta State Government has requested from the Federal Government the £4.2million James Ibori loot recently recovered from the United Kingdom.

The state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, during the 2021 Quarterly Media Interaction which held in Asaba on Wednesday, disclosed that his administration has formally written to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the federation, Abubakar Malami, to return the funds to the state for developmental projects that will benefit the people.
Malami had revealed on Tuesday that the federal government eventually repatriated the money from the UK.

However, he said the repatriated fund would be used for the completion of some ongoing federal projects.
But Okowa insisted that the state government is committed to recovering the fund.
“We have written series of letters to President Muhammadu Buhari and Attorney General of the Federation over the matter.
“The state plans to use the money to finance some ongoing developmental projects, embark on new projects in the three senatorial districts that will be beneficial to the entire residents, create employment whereby youths and others would be proud of such opportunities,” he stressed.
On whether the federal government will release the money to the state or not, the governor said his government has suggested some projects to the federal government which it can use the money to finance.
