A former presidential aide, Remo Omokri, has said critics of the Nigerian government would have died or disappeared like Wagner boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin, if Peter Obi had won the election.
Reacting via his X handle, Omokri, referring to supporters of Obi, popularly called ‘Obidients’, said Nigeria dodged a bullet with Obi losing out on the presidency.
He wrote, “Do you see how Wagner boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin, died? That is how critics of the Nigerian government would have died or disappeared if a particular candidate had emerged as Nigeria’s President. Think of the death threats made against my family and me.
“The threats against the Kutis and the injunction to burn down Fela’s shrine. The way Pastor Poju was insulted and pilloried. How Professor Wole Solyinos was both threatened and insulted. The threat to the life of Seyi Law’s daughter. Recall the mobbing and public humiliation of the elderly Lamidi Apapa. The hounding and death threats against Sam Omatseye. The threats to take out the children of Justice Haruna Tsammani of the Presidential Election Petition Court and the publication of their photographs. The cocking of a gun by one of them in a now-viral video where he threatened those who would not vote for their candidate.
“Put in the same position, their candidate would allow his followers to do worse than what is done in some dictatorial countries. Nigeria dodged a bullet. And we must prepare to reject that bullet whenever it reappears.”
The 2023 election was marred with a lot of threats by ‘Obidients’ against prominent Nigerians who didn’t support Peter Obi’s candidacy.
