Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, has slammed prominent Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, for saying that Nigeria will regret it if Isa Pantami, Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, is removed due to his past comments that showed sympathy towards extremism.
Fani-Kayode, in a recent virtual interview, alleged that the Islamic cleric spoke the minds of those in the core north.
He said Gumi has taken up the mantle of his father, who according to him, said a Christian will never rule Nigeria.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain described Gumi’s threat that the country will regret it if Pantami is replaced as minister because of the controversy as “absolute nonsense”.
He said the cleric “speaks for a large segment of people in the core north who are misguided and don’t know any better”.
Fani-Kayode warned that as long as there are individuals like Pantami in government, the country will continue to suffer the consequences.
