Shehu Sani, a former senator, has said Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a renowned Islamic scholar, disclosed to him that the al-Qaeda styled terrorist group, the Vanguards for the Protection of Muslims in Black Africa, better known as Ansaru, has infiltrated some of the bandits operating in the North-West region.
Sani said this in a Twitter post on Tuesday, a day after he visited the Islamic scholar.
According to the former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central in the eighth National Assembly, Gumi noted that the subsequent alliance between the Ansaru terrorists and the bandits is complicating efforts to secure the release of persons abducted and moved to the forests in the North-West region.
On my visit,Sheikh Dr Ahmad Gumi revealed that the Islamist terrorist group Ansaru, actually infiltrated some of the Bandits in the North West. And that is complicating interventions.

The North-West region has witnessed an increase in abduction over the past two months.
The 39 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, abducted by bandits over two weeks ago are yet to be freed.
