Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a Sharia Court judge in Bauren Zakat village in Saafa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

 Daily Trust quoted witnesses as saying that the gunmen invaded the court around 3:00pm on Tuesday and abducted the judge identified as Husaini Sama’ila.

It was stated that the the court was relocated to Safana due to security reasons.

However, it remains unclear why the judge was in court, with the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

JUSUN had embarked on a nationwide strike on April 6, demanding compliance with the provisions of sections 81(3), 121(3) and 162(9) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on financial autonomy of the judicial arm at the state level.

Security operatives are yet to react to the incident.
