Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have attacked and injured some soldiers of the Guards Brigade who have the mandate to protect President Muhammadu Buhari.

It was gathered that the soldiers of the 7 Guards Battalion were on routine patrol along Kubwa – Bwari road when they ran into the ambush by the suspected terrorists in the nation’s capital city.

The attack is coming barely twenty-four hours after terrorists threatened to kidnap President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.

The development is said to have caused panic among many residents of Abuja.

The terrorists were said to be headed to the Nigerian Law School in Bwari when they ran into the troops, leading to the exchange of gunfire in which three soldiers were injured.

According to one of the military sources quoted by The Nation, the three soldiers who were injured during the attack have been evacuated to the hospital for treatment.

“The ambush happening within the general area of Bwari shows that the terrorists are actually within the location and possibly to carry out their plans of attacking the Law School in Bwari as earlier reported,” the source stated.

Speaking on the development when contacted, the Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Guards Brigade, Captain Godfrey Abakpa, confirmed the attack but said the terrorists were successfully repelled.

“They were attacked and the attack was successfully repelled. We had a few wounded in action who have been taken to the hospital and are receiving treatments.”

He urged members of the public to continue with their lawful activities as troops have been deployed to the general area to ensure security.

“At the moment our troops are still combing the general area to get rid of the criminals that have been threatening the general area. It is advised that residents go about their lawful businesses and keep cooperating with us by giving us timely information to enable us win the fight against the criminals,” he added.
