Unknown gunmen, on Monday, attacked the residence of Yourba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to BBC Yoruba, the gunmen shot sporadically during the attack which occurred at about 1:00am.
It said Dapo Salami, Igboho’s spokesman in Nigeria, who confimed the incident, said the activist and his supporters who were with him in the house confronted the attackers and chased them away.
“We don’t know the number of the attackers but they were many. We don’t also know who they were because they came in the early hours of the day,” Salami said.
“We don’t know if they were hoodlums or security operatives but they came with petrol with the intention to burn the house with Igboho inside.
“If not for Igboho’s supporters who confronted them.”
Salami added that nothing happened to Igboho during the attack.
One of the houses belonging to the activist in Ibadan was razed by suspected arsonists in January this year.
However, no life was lost in the incident.
