Gunmen have kidnapped Hassana Sauki, wife of a former councilor in Zamfara State, and her eight-month-old baby.
Babangida Damba, her husband, the former councillor of Tudun-Wada Gusau ward, explained that the incident occurred on Wednesday, when the armed men invaded their residence at the Government Residential Quarter in Damba.
Damba said the attackers shot at him and his 26-year-old wife, before abducting her, according to Channels Television.
He stated that the gunmen who were about four, started their operation from 12: 00am, shooting sporadically for over one hour before whisking his wife and son away to an undisclosed location.
The former councillor said he put a distress call to the police immediately to come to his rescue, but they did not show up until 3:00am, after the criminals had long escaped.
Damba said he recovered 17 used ammunition and one live ammunition which the gunmen fired at the main door of his house to force it open.
Kidnapping and banditry have become common occurrences in Zamfara State. Hundreds of students have been abducted from their schools in the north-west state, sparking fears among residents. Some of them were later rescued.
