Two medical doctors have reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen in Cross River, according to the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
Felix Archibong, the state’s NMA chairman, reportedly verified the incident on Saturday in Calabar, the capital of the Cross River.
According to Archibong, the association’s medical physicians were abducted on Friday near the Ikomita section of the Calabar-Ikom highway.
He claimed that in addition to the two physicians, two other people had been seized, and that the gunmen had demanded a ransom of N100 million in exchange for their release.
Sule Balarabe, the state’s commissioner of police, also confirmed the occurrence and stated that the force is actively working to ensure the release of the kidnapped individuals.
“We are going to comb the forest to secure their release. I assure you that the matter will adequately be dealt with. I am not just sitting in Calabar to give orders, I am also on the ground with my men,” Balarabe said.
“We have the cooperation of the locals, and I believe we will have positive results. I am on the ground with various units.
“We are hitting the nails on its head as I speak, we must make sure we secure the release of the victims unharmed.”
