Some gunmen reportedly raided a detention facility in Ghana, freeing a Nigerian armed robbery suspect, Chibuzor Akwuba. Ghana’s media said the gunmen numbered six and carrying heavy weapons stormed the Kwabenya Police District, in the Greater Accra Region, on Sunday.

Aside, Akwuba, five other detainees believed to be members of the gang were also set free. They are Dickson Ofori, Edem Rockson, Emmanuel Kotey, Prince Osei, Kofi Darko and Atta Kwadwo. The police said the suspects are aged between 20 and 34 years old.
The gunmen overwhelmed and shot at the police officer on duty. The injured police officer, Police Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi, was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, where he eventually died.
The report further said police have released images of the escapees and are urging the public to volunteer information that will lead to their arrest.

The gunmen who carried out the deadly attack are still at large, despite the police making a number of arrests in connection with the incident.
