Persons suspected to be hackers organising a fundraiser on WhatsApp for a purported sick teenage girl have been accused of attempting to scam well-wishers of their funds.
A resident of an estate accused a fellow resident, identified simply as Engr Adesuyi, of attempting to deceive the estate inhabitants by forwarding a false message to them on their WhatsApp group.
The estate resident claimed to be friends with the teenager’s mother and confirmed that the girl did indeed suffer from a medical condition known as Sinonasal Tumor, but noted that all the details, including the name of the girl, parents’ name and the timing of the illness, listed in the WhatsApp message were incorrect.
Below is the WhatsApp message that is said to have been forwarded to the estate’s group:

But while responding to a well-wisher who showed concern on the case, the estate resident said her mother passed away in the same Ward E3 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and did not see the said ill teenager all through the period the mother was there.
According to the individual, the teenager got the necessary financial assistance and underwent treatment for the medical condition, adding that she was discharged from the hospital on December 31, 2020.
“It’s a scam, my mum just passed on a few days ago in the same Ward E3 in Luth and this thing has been making rounds, I checked the girl on Ward, she was not there,” the individual wrote.
However, another member of the estate’s WhatsApp group clarified that Engr Adesuyi claimed that his phone was hacked.
“I have spoken to the person that posted and I have confirmed that his phone was hacked. Engr Adesuyi is a respected person and will never engage in such unscrupulous act. Admin please do the needful,” the concerned individual who contacted the reported sender of the message wrote.
The individual who raised the red-flag over the case then insisted that whoever composed the message “is a liar”, adding that “he’s doing this for his stomach”.
“Very sad at the things that have become the order of our society somehow.
“The Mother of this girl is my Protegee. Yes she had this condition last year and it was a serious case that required financial support and God rose to their help. The beautiful girl has been restored to health and was finally discharged home on the 31st of Dec. 2020. It’s such a shock to see a glutton hacker catching in on someone’s pain to make gain. I wonder where people’s conscience have gone to. It’s well o!” the individual said.
