At least nine persons have been killed and several others injured, after suspected herdsmen attacked Agatu community in Benue State.

The attack occurred on Sunday in Adana.
The incident was said to have followed an allegation by herdsmen, that residents of the village killed two of their kinsmen, and also rustled many of their cows, Television Continental reports.

Confirming the incident, caretaker chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, Suleiman Usman Alilu, said he received a call on Sunday morning that herdsmen were attacking the community.
Alilu said he alerted the chief security adviser of the state, P Hembah, who ensured deployment of security personnel to Adana, to restore normalcy.

He, however, said the casualty figure was yet to be ascertained.
But Josiah Ikwulono, a medical doctor in the village, noted that nine persons; five males and four females were confirmed killed shortly after the incident.
