A LAGBUS vehicle carrying passengers from the Sango end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to Oshodi have been attacked by hoodlums at the toll gate area, few minutes after its departure. Eyewitnesses told The Punch that the hoodlums, numbering about 30, stopped the vehicle around 10pm under the pretext of boarding before dispossessing passengers of valuables.
The gang members were armed with cutlasses, knives and sticks while their leader had a gun. The bus conductor, a lady, who escaped after being robbed reportedly raised an alarm making passers-by swoop on the attackers. The mob were able to apprehend three while others fled the scene.
A resident said it took efforts from operatives from the Algbado Police Division to save the apprehended hoodlums from being lynched. He said the attack could have been foiled if it had happened during the week and not on a Sunday.
Olarinde Famous-Cole, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other members of the gang.
