Fire ServiceHoodlums attacked about five firefighters of the Lagos State Fire Service in the Ajegunle and Surulere areas of the state. It was said that one of the men had his ear severely injured in the attack, another had a bottle smashed on his head while others were beaten mercilessly and their truck damaged. The hoodlums were said to have trying to loot property from some buildings gutted by fire and descended on the firemen when they were seen as obstacles to their mission.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said the men of the service have always encountered such forces while carrying out their lawful duties. He said the incidents happened on Idewu Street, Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle and Odunsi Street, Itire-Surulere. He said his men had responded to distress calls from the areas but had been attacked and chased from the scenes of the fire. He lauded the Divisional Police Officer at Itire for rescuing the men from further attacks. He appealed to members of the public to desist from attacking firefighters and damaging government facilities.
