Some hoodlums attacked workers of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) at Oja Oba Market, Dosunmu stabbing one of them in the eye for revealing their activities and where they hide weapons to the police. The man, Oluwaseun Thomas, was said to have reported the activities of the thugs to the police through a community leader. Thomas and his colleagues were clearing waste from the market around 9pm on 21 January before they were attacked. The hoodlums, said to be numbering about 10, were said to have left their knife in his head and left him to bleed to death on the road. He was however rescued by some residents who rushed him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba for treatment before he was taken to a private hospital for further treatment.

A community leader, spoke to Punch on condition of anonymity, said the attack on the LAWMA worker was successful partly because he put on his earphones on the night of the incident. She said he was working to raise money for his university education having lost his father some years ago.

The Head of Public Affairs, LAWMA, Lookman Seriki, confirmed the attack and said that some of the workers had been discharged from the hospital after treatments.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, also confirmed the incident, adding that the police were waiting for the complainant to give a lead on the arrest of the hoodlums.
