Rapheal Ameh, a 25-year-old housemaid, who allegedly stole her employer’s $2000 and jewellery worth N100, 000, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ameh is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. She, however, “pleaded not guilty.”
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, the accused committed the offences on Decemeber 9, at Femi Asiwaju Close, Ojodu Berger, Lagos.
Ihiehie said the accused stole the jewellery and $2000 from the complainant, Adetutu Babalola.
“She stole the items when her madam went to pick her daughter from school, gaining entrance into her bedroom through the ceiling.
“The estate security caught the accused when she tried to leave the estate with her belongings and the stolen items,’’ he said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). Section 287 (7) stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders.
The Magistrate, E. Kubeinje, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
Kubeinje said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until February 11, 2019.
