A downpour which resulted in a flood on Sunday damaged several houses and vehicles in some areas of Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said.

The acting Zonal Coordinator of NEMA”s South-West Zonal Office, Ibrahim Farinloye, in a statement said the affected areas in Alimosho LGA are Oko Oba, Ekoro, Akowonjo, Egbeda and Ekoro axis.

He urged residents and drivers in the area to be extremely careful, as some of the electric poles had fallen after the downpour.

“Some of the water are overflowing from the canal are entering inside the residential houses. Several houses were affected and the calculation cannot be done today.”

Farinloye also revealed how Ikeja Electric Plc has been contacted to isolate the areas where electricity poles fell to prevent electrocution.

“Motorists are warned to exercise extreme care as the traffic jam is terrible due to every motorist trying to access the junction at the same time.

“Upon assessment, about 25 vehicles were found to have their engines affected by floodwaters and the owners have been advised to avoid driving the vehicles. As of now, there is no report of loss of life,” he added.
