Uche Okafor Mefor, estranged Deputy-Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Wednesday cautioned proponents of the outlawed group against criminality and atrocities.
Newsbreak.ng reports that according to diaspora-based Mefor, the inability to follow the requirements of international law on statehood can derail Biafra agitation.
He therefore called on those embarking on criminality in Nigeria’s southeast region and “denting the image of Biafra” to stop.
“Nobody can stop Biafra agitation and the right to self-determination of the people of Biafra. It is only human rights violations—-criminality and atrocities —by the Biafra agitators against the people of Biafra and the inability to follow the requirements of international law on statehood that can delay or derail it.Unless pro-Biafra groups join politics in Biafraland (not Nigerian central/federal politics),backed up with legitimate self defence, and elect pro-Biafra politicians as state assembly members and governors, Biafra Restoration will continue to be a mirage for the foreseeable future until the right thing is done. Those embarking on criminality and denting the image of Biafra must continue to be called out. IPONK must stop the criminality or continue to pursue shadows,” Mefor said via social media.
Over 50 years after the civil war ended in Nigeria, the struggle to keep the dream of a separate Biafra state alive continues.
