A Facebook user, Genda Godwin, on Monday narrated how some murderous herdsmen wreaking havoc in Benue State attacked his cousin in Yogbo village and plucked out his two eyes.
Newsbreak.ng learned that the killer herdsmen made incursions on Yogbo, Tse Numgbera, Umella, and Ukohol communities in Guma Local Government Area (LGA) about six weeks ago, murdering several people and seriously injuring many.
Between 2016 and 2018, there were 3,641 deaths throughout Nigeria due to the herder-farmer conflicts, according to Amnesty International. The majority of the reported victims were locals and herdsmen were reported as the aggressors, launching deadly raids frequently.
North-central Nigeria is the hotspot of pastoralist attacks in the country.
“Today I summoned courage and visited my cousin brother Aondongu, who was brutally matchet [sic] and disfigured by herdsmen in Yogbo,” Godwin wrote.
“His condition scared me, but holding to the fact that I can’t run away from my blood, I gain the courage to see him face-to-face for the first time since the ugly situation occurred.
“Unfortunately, the heartless herdsmen plucked out his eyes with other deep injuries. This is my pain [sic]!”
