A fake beggar nabbed by the Lagos State Taskforce has explained how she makes about N3,500 to N5,000 daily from street begging. Chinagoro Uwenke was arrested in the Oshodi area of the state with her son, Sunny. Uwenke said she had stopped her son’s schooling to participate in the illicit trade. She said she wrapped his leg with bandages and poured Gentian Violet on it to deceive the unsuspecting public to part with money.
The chairman of the taskforce, Olayinka Egbeyemi, said the 40-year-old would be charged to court as directed by the Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni. Egbeyemi said the rate at which fake beggars operate in the metropolis is alarming.
“The rate at which these fake beggars operate in the state calls for concern.
“That is why the Agency is collaborating with relevant government Ministries, Agencies and Departments to get rid of these beggars on the streets and roads of Lagos.
“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni has directed that the suspect be immediately charged to court,” NAN quoted him to have said.
The suspect who stays at Oyingbo, pleaded with the government not to charge her to court, saying she was ready to go back to her town and re-unite with her family voluntarily.
